Pure blockbuster bliss. These are the greats. These are the ones setting the bar. Anime can keep dreaming of reaching their level, but it'll never happen.

All three of these studios are more concerned with making a quick buck than creating real works of art. They're like a factory cranking out cheap, mass-produced entertainment.

tldr; western animation blows significant amounts of ass and has for a decade and Japanese animation is godly in comparison (yes American subject matter seriously sucks and the numbers prove this)

You can really see the strength of Japanese animation with some of Sunrise's recent output with movies such as Gundam Hataway and Gundam Seed Freedom absolutely smashing it at the box office. One is a slow and thoughtful science fiction thriller, while the other is more of a Michael Bay flick. And that's not to mention the success of their latest full series The Witch from Mercury.

I think, because there are so few animators in Japan, that means there are very limited number of animation studios and some of them work together or an anime title may change from studio to studio (what happened with Attack on Titan). I think this also means the top animators are at certain studios, such as MAPPA or Cloverworks. This also means that the highest quality content are coming from a handful of studios. If you find yourself enjoying anime of similar styles, odds are they're made by the same studio.

Wait. Y’all were worried about anime being popular to watch it? I was watching dragon ball and speed racer back in ‘94 and beyond. It led me into American comics and mythology. Who cares if kids thought it was weird, it was awesome enough to be published and spread out across the world. I’ll say I was an only child without any first cousins so I guess I just didn’t care what others thought since I was my own sounding board.
